Beloved by millions of people around the world, a standard 26&2 Hot Yoga Class is based on a form popularized in the west by Bikram Yoga College of India in the 1970’s. This class consists of a series of 26 postures that are designed to promote the production of oxygenated blood. As the oxygenated blood travels through your bloodstream to each fiber and organ in your body, it will restore them back to the healthy, working order that nature intended. Every pose works to address something different, but all of the poses also work synergistically together. When you attend a 26&2 Hot Yoga class at Haute Bodhi Hot Yoga, you’ll find a classroom designed for proper heating, with a temperature of 105 degrees Fahrenheit and a humidity level of 40 percent. This will help you practice every pose properly and safely. And, of course, our amazing instructors will be there to guide you.
The 26&2 Hot Yoga series originates from the teachings of Sri Bishnu Charan Ghosh in Calcutta, India in the 1920s. As the younger brother of Kriya Yogi and author of the spiritual classic Autobiography of a Yogi, Paramahansa Yogananda, Ghosh was destined to make an impact on the world through his understanding of physical culture, yoga, and bodybuilding. In 1923 he founded the College of Physical Eduction where he taught students Hatha yoga and instilled the values and traditions of yoga rooted in ancient texts and philosophies.
Please make sure that you arrive early enough to take care of anything you need to do before class starts. These items include setting up your mat and towel, making sure you have plenty of water, and checking in at the front desk. Please be aware that we lock the front door at the beginning of every class.
We consider the yoga classroom to be a sacred space for everyone. While in class, please be respectful of others and remain quiet. As your classmates are getting set up, take some time to relax, unwind and meditate before class begins.
We offer a variety of classes for you to choose from, including 60-minute, 75-minute, and 90-minute options. Please feel free to take a break at any time during class by either standing still or kneeling in a gentle pose. After all, it’s your practice, and you should listen to what your body is trying to tell you, even if it’s that you should slow down or take a break. However, we do encourage you to stay until class is complete, no matter your level of participation.
When it comes to 26&2 Hot Yoga, you can expect to get sweaty. Because of the heat and the sweat, you could easily get dehydrated in hot yoga if you’re not prepared, so we suggest drinking more water than you normally do on class day. It’s also a good idea to keep your meals light as class time approaches. If you are well-hydrated, and you don’t have too much food in your stomach, it will make it easier for your body to adjust to the heat. Once class begins, try to focus on your body and your breath, waiting for your instructor to give you the go-ahead to have your first sip of water, which will be about 25 minutes into class.
No two people are alike, and no two bodies are alike either. In order to provide you with the safest, most-effective practice for your own unique needs, please make sure that you tell your instructor about any pre-existing injuries or other limitations you may have. And, as always, don’t hesitate to ask questions after class.
Don’t forget to wear something cool and comfortable. For your first class, you should be golden in a T-shirt and shorts. You’ll also want to bring a yoga mat, a towel, and, of course, water. But, if you forget something, don’t worry, because we have everything you need for sale or for rent.
Bikram Yoga is practiced in a heated room because it helps to increase your heart rate, boost your metabolism, flush out toxins and increase flexibility in your muscles and blood vessels. In Bikram Yoga, you’ll sweat like crazy and burn a lot of calories. The heat also requires a whole other level of focus and concentration, which will allow for increased growth in your practice. Plus, you’ll get a rush of endorphins that will leave you feeling like you can conquer the world.
